COMMUNITY TECHNOLOGY AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

Our Commitment

Dev/Mission’s Community Technology Associate Program provides Selected Affordable Housing communities in San Francisco with Free Tech Support and digital literacy workshops. Residents will receive a CTA intern in their location who will assist them with technical support, troubleshooting, and digital literacy training completely.

Just a few services that we offer.

Troubleshooting Assistance

Help users diagnose and resolve issues with their devices or software.

Data Backup and Recovery

Educate users on the importance of regular data backups and guide them through the process. Offer assistance in data recovery if needed.

Device Setup and Optimization

Provide guidance on setting up new devices (computers, smartphones, etc.) and optimizing their performance.

Email Configuration and Troubleshooting

Help users set up and troubleshoot issues with their email accounts and clients.

Meet Sally, she wanted to learn how to use the internet browser more efficiently and what all the apps on her Macbook did. I showed her how to use browser bookmarks to access websites, block spam emails, and walked her through many Macbook apps on how to use them.

“I have been revising what you have taught me and with repeated attempts have managed to block some of the unwanted ads from my primary mailbox. Again, I really appreciate how patient and painstaking you were yesterday and sincerely hope you will continue to assist me.”

This is Don, one of the client from the Tech Week event. He booked an appointment with Dev/Mission and was directed to the Bernal Dwellings partner site. He needed help retrieving his password for his laptop. He handled over his laptop to me and I inspected what I can do to help retrieve his password. Regarding to forgotten passwords, it could not be retrieved back, I helped Don and went to Microsoft account to help him reset his password. After resetting Don’s password to his laptop, Don was able to access his laptop once again. Don quoted that, “he has not touched this laptop in 4 years”.

Resident Quote – Gin Wah Moon

Gin Wah Moon discovered our services through Kate Eppler and SF Tech Week. Instead of seeking assistance from Best Buy’s Geek Squad, who charged a high fee, he approached us for help with his computer issues. We successfully resolved the problem by providing a new display cord. Impressed with our service, Gin Wah continued to bring in more devices for assistance, including learning tasks like deleting shortcuts, reinstalling Windows, setting up his printer, and configuring his peripherals. Despite having limited technological knowledge, Gin Wah showed great dedication by visiting us frequently during tech week. He expressed gratitude for our patience, service, and expertise in supporting him throughout his learning journey.

Clifford Ricks who lives in Chinatown received our flyer at the Bayview Library and visited our Valencia Gardens location. Central Computers quoted him $90/hour for computer diagnosis and repair. We reinstalled Windows 10 instead, saving him from buying a new laptop. The next morning, Clifford called to express his gratitude, saying, “You did a great job with my computer. Thank you for your services.”

The Computer Refurbishment and Distribution provides opportunities to conduct community Refurbathon events inside Affordable Housing Locations and lead the distribution of refurbished computers, provide Digital Literacy Workshops, and online Resources to every family that attends.
