PRE-APPRENTICESHIP

Our Commitment

Our program supports untapped young adults aged 18-24 by providing the hardware, coding instruction, and critical skills needed to pursue tech careers. We connect participants from underserved communities with apprenticeships, internships, and job opportunities. Each participant is paired with a tech mentor for six months, who offers personalized advice and career guidance to help them succeed in the tech industry.

In-Person Classes in San Francisco

What you will learn

The Curriculum Consists of 4 Main Components.

IT Essentials

With a combination of lectures and hands on assignments, students will learn to trouble shoot and maintain hardware, preparing them for the A+ PC Technician Certification.

Intro to Programming

Students will focus on fundamental HTML, CSS, and Javascript skills via hands-on lessons and online tools. Learning to solve complex coding problems.

IoT

Never heard of a particle photon or a PIR sensor? This course is designed by Googlers for people with ZERO coding backgrounds.

Career Skills

Gain competency in our highly requested soft-skills curriculum. Students will prepare for careers as they begin to navigate the professional world.

Is there any cost associated with these classes?

No, our coding/tech classes program is entirely free of charge. We believe in making education accessible to everyone.

Is previous computer science or coding experience necessary?

We designed our course for beginners, so no prior experience is necessary! We dedicate ourselves to providing you with all the essential knowledge. Join us and acquire new skills with confidence!

Is there any age restriction for joining the free coding/tech classes program?

Yes, our program is specifically tailored for individuals between the ages of 18 and 24.

Do I need to have a specific type of computer or software for the classes?

No, our classes are designed to be accessible on a variety of devices. As long as you have a computer or laptop with internet access, you'll be able to participate without any issues. Dev/Mission is happy to lend a free laptop to any student who needs one for class.

See a timeline of what you will be doing during the program and after graduation

Registered Pre-Apprenticeship (3 months)

Learn various skills ranging from IoT, IT Essentials, Intro to Programming, AI Literacy and Critical Career.
Projects: Apply the skills you learned to build your digital portfolio, web app, smart device (IoT). Professional development: Build your resume, create your personal brand on LinkedIn, and prepare for mock interviews and job search strategies. Graduation: Receive a stipend, a laptop, and a career mentor, who will help guide your journey for 6 months.

Internship (4 months)

Community Technology Ambassador:Graduates have the option to become a CTA Intern where they put their new tech skillset to use by providing direct free tech support to community members at established locations around San Francisco. IT Technician: Graduates will work side-by-side in our HQ Refurbishing Center as an IT Technician.
